Off season updates

Onalaska Football Families,
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.

As the winter sports season has started up my wife and I look forward to getting out and watching as many competitions as we can.  We love seeing our football athletes competing in other sports.

If you have a Junior who is thinking about playing college football please make sure that they have told me this so that I can put them on my recruits list for this spring.  Also make sure they have created a Hudl premium highlight of themselves that I can share with recruiters (this is free to do, they can ask how to do it if they don't know how, but a quick google search will tell them how as well.)

We would like all of our athletes participating in something throughout the year.  If it is not a winter sport we expect them to be in the weight room. Dedication to the weight room is what separates the top programs in the state from the rest.  Commitment to the weight room during the off season teaches athletes how to be accountable to their teammates and how to prepare themselves for any sport they play.  We are asking and expecting our athletes who are not in a sport be in the weight room 3 days per week.  It will be open every day after school from 3 until 4:30 and most days before school from 6am-7am.  We believe that if they can be there at least 3 days a week they will see huge gains and an increase in performance in all of their sports.  I have never had an athlete regret how hard they have worked in the weight room.  I have had many that regretted that they didn't work harder.  Please encourage your athlete to put the time in, they will not regret their hard work. If rides are an issue please let me know and we will help find a ride to or from weights to help get your athlete there.

It is especially important that we see our freshmen athletes in the weight room.  We have a good class of juniors and sophomores right now but very few freshmen.  Please encourage your freshmen athletes to get up in the weight room.  Our team success starts in the off season.

The benefits to our off season program reach much further than just athletics.
  1. It teaches our athletes to dedicate themselves to their teammates and work towards a common goal.  This is applicable all throughout life.
  2. It gives them a safe place that they will stay out of trouble on a daily basis and sets them up with a positive peer group.
  3. It teaches them time management skills which help them through high school and life.
  4. It teaches you that hard work isn't easy, but is always worth it.
  5. It creates positive friendships that will last long after high school is gone.
